The Career Advancement Scheme outlines specific criteria for promotion from Stage III to Stage IV, which typically involves moving from Assistant Professor (Selection Grade/Academic Level 12) to Associate Professor (Academic Level 13A). According to the guidelines issued by the Higher Education Department, a candidate must have completed three years of service in Academic Level 12. A Ph.D. degree in a relevant, allied, or related discipline is also a mandatory requirement for this promotion stage.
In addition to the service and qualification requirements, candidates are assessed based on their performance. They must achieve a “satisfactory” or “good” grade in the annual performance assessment reports for at least two of the last three years of the assessment period.
